I have had my head down writing a book to tight deadlines.Although Gen Y have some very different characteristics to previous generations, in my experience they will be able to do things that previous generations were simply unable to do, and they will teach us many things in the process. They are not only much better at multi-tasking, a large percentage are great natural entrepreneurs. They tend to have few boundaries between work and play, and if harnessed correctly can be much more effective and productive than previous generations. But they don't much like working in the old ways, which I believe, quite frankly, are a relic of the past and not relevant to today's very different world. On balance I like them. A lot. And I think they're capable of amazing things.

Hi Nick, thanks for commenting and apologies for the time it has taken to respond. I must admit, i don't envy some of the characteristics of Gen Y (I'm in my 40's, home owner, financially stable, etc..), but two aspects interest me:- They are IT savvy to a point that scares me!
- Following on from this, the way to communicate with them/market to them is very different from how we focus on other demographics. One thing's for sure, with the right motivation and opportunities, this generation have the ability to succeed and help the country to grow.

A very good article.
